Canadian Art, and Why it Matters - With Arkells' Max Kerman

Canadian Art, and Why it Matters - With Arkells' Max Kerman

Before the most recent Canadian election I reached out to Dave Kaufman and asked if he wanted to start a show about the many, many issues facing Canada. We'd talk to experts and advocates in their relative fields, and aim for a future that isn't as bleak as the one we're facing today.

While we talk about serious things, we try to attack these issues with solutions, without leaving others behind.

From the start, I wanted to talk about CanCon, Canadian content, and the importance of having our own art in order to develop and preserve culture. With that larger conversation in mind, we talked to Max Kerman; front man of Canadian hit band Arkells and author of Try Hard.

What does someone who tours Canada and the world see reflected back in audiences? How has his view of Canada and Canadian art changed over time? Should Canada do more to help local artists, and what would that look like? How did writing a book influence his creative process?
